I’m new on your blog so sorry if you already commented on it but what are your thoughts on Cas/Hannah? Do you think it’ll be a mutal romance? or like a false lead etc

deanswingsbothways-deactivated2:

My thoughts on Cas/Hannah is that I haven’t even bothered to make a ship tag for them. In the shippiest fandom on god’s green earth, I have yet to come across a single person who’s like, “Actually they’d be kinda cute together…” unless they immediately follow it up with, “platonically.”

This is the fandom who took Anna’s comment about Ruby not being like other demons and fucking RAN WITH IT into femmeslash glory. That ship is still on my dash five years later, for characters who shared two episodes and are both dead. We will ship anybody with anybody with little to no provocation, is what I’m saying.

If Supernatural was this good at hitting all the “don’t ship this” buttons five years ago, we would be watching a significantly less Destiel-licious version of the show right now.

They don’t hit the right notes with each other, and it’s on purpose. They should have a really sympathetic relationship, if you think about it. Hannah is mirroring Castiel’s previous journey toward his fall, he can clearly see it in her, he has a lot of insight into what she’s going through.

But they’re stiff and awkward with each other, boring beyond belief, and Cas clearly isn’t into it. That’s on purpose. Look at how quickly they switched out Anna for Cas when Anna and Dean had all the chemistry of wet cardboard, and Misha was hitting the Angel/Human dynamic in a way that worked. Hannah was in season nine and had no chemistry with Cas, TPTB knew it already. If they’d wanted chemistry, if they wanted an angel Cas could conceivably be romantically involved with, they could have started this season with a whole different angel coming to ask for Castiel’s help.

They want us to think of platonic campfires with smores when we think about Hannah and Cas. They made intentional choices. Misha Collins would have chemistry with a canvas grocery bag, it’s clearly not a failing on either of the actors’ parts. (As an aside: it wasn’t Julie McNiven’s fault that Anna and Dean had no chemistry, either. Shit happens.)

I think Cas shut Hannah down pretty well in Soul Survivor, but I think their relationship is already being used as a false lead. For Dean. I have already commented on how fanfic-y it was that Cas said he had “a female” in the car when Dean has actually MET Hannah. It’s a false lead that’s only fooling Dean.

Aside from being trope-y, I think their relationship will get steadily more interesting as we go on. Hannah is beginning to get an inkling of what it’s like to feel, just as Cas is trying to put a lid on his own emotions. “I just want to be an angel,” telling Hannah they have to concentrate on the mission and that emotions are dangerous, his whole speech about totally getting why Dean would want to stay a demon because it’s easier…

Guys, Cas is done. Cas is tired. Cas has experienced profound human emotion and it has wrecked him, and he’s made a decision that a lot of people make after bad breakups and shitty life events. He’s decided to just swear off feelings altogether because clearly the highs aren’t worth the lows.

In case you’re looking for this season’s reason why Cas doesn’t just waggle Dean about in his arms and say, “I love you, you ass,” that would be it.

As Cas retreats further into angelic indifference, and Hannah moves forward into human experiences, I think seeing humanity afresh through her eyes is really going to help Cas break down all his new defenses. Don’t be surprised if we get a mirrored version of the “Art, hope, love, dreams,” speech later on in the season.

If we’re really lucky, she’ll give this speech with great fervor, Cas will realize she’s right and grasp her shoulder while staring at her emotionally, and Dean will walk in and completely misinterpret what’s going on.

I mean, since we’re already being fanfic-y all up in this season, we might as well go whole hog.
