Hey, a weird question but which Supernatural episode would you say you’ve seen/rewatched the most? :)

The Man Who Would Be King. Hands down. Goodbye Stranger comes close but TMWWBK is my all-time favorite Supernatural episode.

It’s the episode where I realized Destiel wasn’t a fan construct.

I’ve been in fandoms for more than a decade, I’m aware that fandoms slash ship everyone. But I like my ships with canon potential for the most part. So while everyone else was reading Harry/Draco slashfic, I was busy reading Ron/Hermione and arguing with people about why it was totally gonna be canon.

So I was aware, vaguely, that Destiel was a thing some people shipped, but it didn’t really ping on my radar any more than Snape/James fic did back in the day, you know? Slash shippers could do what they wanted, but I didn’t really care.

So I’m in my PJs watching The Man Who Would Be King like, “Aw yes, Castiel episode, love this bastard,” and it happens.

Castiel’s sad, sad eyes follow Dean, he turns his whole body towards him, invisible and pining, and voiceover!Cas says, “And the worst was Dean, trying so hard to be loyal.”

I jack-knifed up so fast I almost fell off the couch and yelled, “OH MY GOD YOU’RE IN LOVE WITH HIM.” There may have been high-pitched keening as I buried my face in my hands because my first thought was, “Oh Cas, he’s so broken, you’re putting your love in the wrong hands, he’ll never love you back. You sad tragic baby.”

And I kept thinking that right up until the episode where Dean fished Castiel’s trench coat out of the river, at which point more high-pitched keening took place and I was like, “Oh my god yes, he loves you back, Cas. But now you’re dead. But he loves you.”

So I like rewatching The Man Who Would Be King and getting the aftershocks of that first earthquake moment where I went, “Holy shit, this is real and I officially need it more than air.”
