Honestly looking at this Gifset now, I can see how Castiel is truly frightening. Because this isn’t just scary or badass. No. We’ve seen that from Castiel, the Castiel that WE got to know. But this, this is the Castiel before he met the Winchester’s, this is Castiel, a pure ANGEL of the Lord, a Celestial being. And now that I look more closely at it, I think we might have begun to downplay the power that Angels have. Because this isn’t just intimidating. This Castiel, this depiction of what a PURE Angel is… it’s downright creepy. It’s cold, it’s haunting, its literally terrifying. Because yes, we’ve already seen a creature get stabbed, and nothing happened to them. We’ve seen then pull a weapon out of their shoulder and spin it around to use it themselves. But this… there’s just /something/ extremely unsettling about the look that Castiel has on his face. He isn’t phased. Instead, he looks down, and /smiles/ at a blade in his shoulder. He looks the man he saved straight in the eye and pulled it straight out… and the most perhaps unnerving thing is how he just /drops/ it, ignoring the clatter of the metal hitting cols ground. If I were Dean at that moment, I wouldnt be able to Hold my gaze on Castiel. It’s too strong. And Castiel doesn’t do this to impress. He doesn’t do this to intimidate. He looks down, SMILES at a fucking knife in his shoulder, and holds that EXACT EXPRESSION as he draws it from his body and doesn’t turn it around to use it himself, but just let’s the echo of the blade hitting stone ring through the barn, just Because /that is what an Angel is/. Creepy, unsettling, unnerving in their most pure form.

And that’s why I now find Angels to be one of Supernatural’s most terrifying monsters of all.
