Okay, I got that out of my system.
For realsies this time:
This book did seriously wreck me. I shouldn’t have been surprised though, since the film score turns me into a blubbering mess and you do not want to watch said film with me.
If you like the movie though I definitely recommend reading the book it’s based on; Junger does an incredible job piecing together accounts of this storm and others in order to not only recount what happened to some people but also to determine what most likely was happening to the Andrea Gail and her crew during the “Storm of the Century.” His superb journalism makes it far to easy to imagine yourself in the same situation – so much so that I had to skip the two pages detailing what happens to the human body while drowning because it was giving me an anxiety attack.
It’s heartbreaking but devastatingly compelling.
And someday I’ll get my mother to watch the film.
But it is not this day.
