Tumblr is the ‘Male Pinterest’ According to the CW Network

So in this article about Social Media Marketing in The Wall Street Journal, Rick Haskins, the CW’s executive vice president of marketing and digital programs, said about Tumblr:

I think there is something of a snowball effect on Tumblr for that show,” [Haskins] said. “It just feeds on itself. I really think of Tumblr as the male Pinterest.”

Tumblr as the Male Pinterest.

Tumblr as the MALE PINTEREST.

Sure, the social media platform that is on average 60% female is totally accurately described as the MALE anything.

The 60% stat: [Link 1, Link 2]

And CW, come on. Why do you keep rejecting the idea Supernatural has a mostly female audience?

(This really rubs me the wrong way, it’s completely dismissing the contributions of female fans, attributing SPN’s online fandom success to male fans. Which yes, there are, and some of them are awesome. But from a show that so belittles women, that’s so misogynistic, to have them consistently reject the idea that women are responsible for it’s success, it just implies a deep seated resentment of women within TPTB.)

Reblogging to add CW president Mark Pedowitz’s recent comment: “I hope we put the final nail in the coffin (of the perception) that we’re a young girls’ network.”

Because when girls are the reason your goddamn network survived in the first place, are still your network’s overwhelming demographic, when they made you millions, it’s best to show your gratitude. By dismissing and insulting them, disassociating yourself with eeeewwrrgghh GIRL THINGS. And it’s not youth he’s trying to distance the network from (as the Supernatural PTB were told to skew their show to a younger audience starting last season), it’s GIRLS. Girls are the undesirable demo.
