so many of my friends are queer that i genuinely forget that the majority of the population isn’t on a regular basis

It’s herd/pack mentality. Humans do it as much as other species of animals. The reason why the “token queer friend” is so unrealistic is because queer people tend to band together instead of flocking out separately to straight people.

Most queer people see and know the bullying and abuse straight people can say and use against them. They don’t want that, who would?? In turn, straight people can often become obsessive over a person’s queerness. Asking too many questions, accidentally saying hurtful things, and being disrespectful to our sexual and gender identities.

At this point, I, personally, think I only have like, one straight friend. This mentality is why straight people think queer people are so rare/don’t exist, and why us queer people believe the same for straight people.
