I wonder why its central element is the sigil of Lucifer.

Although, it was on the protective spell carved on the ribs of the boys too.

Well, the gist of both Cas’s tattoo and the spell on the boys’ ribs was “ANGELS GO AWAY THIS IS NOT FOR YOU”. It wouldn’t surprise me if angels have an aversion to it and the association with rebellion/disobedience, maybe?
