Lonely is the word. With Sam away at Stanford and John busy with his revenge quest, Dean is left to lead the hunting life he didn’t chose for himself. We rarely get to see young Dean in canon or fics, and this epic story is a real treat. Characterization here is so spot on that it feels like I’m meeting an old friend and learning a little bit more about his youth. Dean’s hopes and bitterness, low self esteem and struggles with his sexuality come to life

effortlessly

and fill all the little gaps and blank spaces in canon story. At the same time, Cas is just as we know him now – been through a wringer of horrid experiences, wise and stalwart; his adoration for Dean unshakable. 

When 22 year old Dean meets season 10 Cas, he is suspicious and distrustful, but the tiny spark of special connection is already there and it grows stronger with every next meeting. Dean has a chance to learn more about his friend from the future, while weary Cas cherishes every moment with a man he never knew, pre-hell Dean. Their short, unpredictable meetings span over several years like emotional whirlpools of hurt and comfort, and prove once again that there’s no force in the universe that can keep them apart, real and alternate time lines crushing together be damned.

This is a beautifully crafted time travel love story and reading it is an experience in itself, don’t deny it to yourself!
