“I love you.”

“I know.”

Jesus fuck those are exactly the words unsaid in this scene.

You know… the lighting…

The same fucking lighting, the same fucking colors.

Lighting, colors, framing, blocking, composition.

There isn’t a single part of this that isn’t reminiscent of the iconic Star Wars scene, and if you think “nah, that was an accident, they didn’t do it on purpose” then just keep in mind that this show is made by a bunch of Star Wars nerds.

Kripke pitched it as “Star Wars in truck stop America.”

There are multiple references to Star Wars in every single season, including at another point in this episode, which was written and directed by Ben Edlund. Meaning that the likelihood of him interpreting the script in an unintended way and adding reference-related subtext by mistake is less than zero.

This was no accident. The subtext of their feelings for one another has been there, and been intentional, since season six.
