THE BAD:
- The cold open was… odd. It made me laugh, but I feel like it belonged in a different episode–just because the rest of this ep was so tense. So I’m on the fence about the cold open 😛
- Still no explanation for Cas’ conspicuous absence in the last episode. It was just so strange that he wasn’t there, and it was made stranger by the lack of reasons given in this one.
THE GOOD:
- Rowena’s crush on Lucifer continues to tickle me
- Young Sam played by Colin Ford!!! I’m so glad they could get him back!
- “Lucifer came to me in a dream… not that kind of dream.” pffff sure Rowena
- Clockwork Orange reference! I think we’ve had Crowley linked to that book/movie before… can’t quite remember how though. Presumably the ultraviolence.
- “He’s changed.” “Sure, all he needed was the love of a horrible woman.”
- Dean’s call history is like SAM CAS 666 SAM SAM CAS SAM SAM :’D
- Dean appears to be losing time with the blurry smiting fallout D:
- Dean’s adorable sticking-out-his-tongue face 😀 😀 😀 What a goober
- Cas holding up one finger “Let me take your temperature” lmao
- I am twelve but we all thought it WE ALL THOUGHT IT
- The long shot of Dean and Cas after they stand up and it’s like twelve miles of nothing and then Dean and Cas standing right on top of each other by the Impala ❤
- Young!Sam being a smooth lil so and so
- The whole sequence with Sam and Lucifer watching the scene at Stull was so well done. A+ editing there
- Ambriel is so cute! “Maybe we could work together… so nobody murders anyone?”
- Cas is so done with angels unfamiliar with being on Earth lmao. “It’s the middle of the afternoon.”
- Dean is on Pine Street telling Cas he needs him *lizard laugh*
- Dean being forced to sing Camptown Ladies made me crylaugh
- BILLIEEEEEEEEE!!!! I love her so much
- AMELIA!!!!!
- I know a lot of people didn’t like her but I thought she was great and now I’m sad about her again :*(
- Lucifer beating Sam over the head with how awful his and Dean’s choices are. Like, he’s a big ol’ bag of dicks but he’s right. And I’m glad Sam appears to be listening.
- “Snapping necks and cashing cheques is what I do” *snortlaugh*
- OKAY so Ambriel telling Cas that he’s expendable made my soul hurt in the best way BECAUSE THIS WHOLE PLOTLINE IS 100% SETTING UP FOR IT TO BE PROVEN TO HIM THAT HE ISN’T EXPENDABLE AT ALL. YOU GUYS. HE’S FINALLY GONNA KNOW HOW LOVED HE IS BY THE END OF THE SEASON AND I AM AN EMOTION.
- THE SPECIAL EFFECTS TEAM DID AN AWESOME JOB ON THIS ONE SERIOUSLY
- the whole dark-to-light sequence was gorgeous whoa
- “You reek of fear and self-loathing” oh hon 😥
- uh oh sending cas away has done something weird to amara i wonder what this will meannnnn…..
- BILLIE IS READING SANDMAN
- SPECIFICALLY A PART WHERE DEATH IS TALKING TO HAZEL
- HAZEL BEING A QUEER WOMAN
- WHOSE PARTNER FOXGLOVE TRAVELS TO HELL TO OFFER HERSELF IN PLACE OF HAZEL WHEN HAZEL IS THERE TRYING TO SAVE HER SON LIKE FFS
- FOR
- FUCKS
- SAKE
- I was legit worried that Sam might actually say yes even though the spoilers for upcoming eps made it obvious that he wouldn’t. This is a good.
- The score in this ep is unusual, but super atmospheric. I like it.
- The nervous demon apologizing for Cas getting past 😀
- Amara is so dramatic carving words into Cas’ chest
- “Move to LA, solve crime.” eehehehehhee
- I’M SO PROUD OF SAM THOUGH
- “THIS IS ABOUT ME HAVING FAITH IN MY FRIENDS. HAVING FAITH IN MY FAMILY. WE WILL FIND A WAY. I AM READY TO DIE. I’M READY TO WATCH THE PEOPLE I LOVE DIE. BUT I’M NOT READY TO BE YOUR BITCH.”
- I AM SO PROUD YOU GLORIOUS MOOSE MAN :’)
- “Dean! And the other one.” pfffft lucifer
- He’s such an asshole I love it
- CAS NOOOOOO (yes this is gonna hurt so goooood)
- HOLY ACTING MISHA
- like you can tell just from how he’s walking that it’s lucifer right away
- and out in the alley he’s misha as lucifer as cas and it’s SO GOOD
- but his mannerisms and body language and facial expressions are all perfect mark p????? AMAZING
- this entire crowley & rowena scene is upsetting. and i love it.
- AND CASIFER IS BACK
- AND MISHA IS DOING SUCH A GOOD JOB
- HE’S SO PERFECTLY LUCIFER
- I CAN’T DEAL WITH IT
- ROWENA NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
- BUT CASIFER
- THIS IS GOING TO LEAD TO SUCH PAINFUL WONDERFUL THINGS I CAN’T WAIT
SCORE: A
Honestly, this whole episode was so tense and I loved it. I don’t know how many times I made stupid abortive movements toward the screen, like… LET ME HELP YOU. So good.
OTHER THINGS:
- In the five minutes I spent on tumblr right after my first watch, I saw a couple of people complaining that Cas shouldn’t have been able to say yes to Lucifer, but I don’t really see why not? I mean… that body is his alone. He owns it. It was reformed sans Jimmy Novak way back when Raphael obliterated him in season five, making Cas the sole occupant. So why shouldn’t he be able to say yes? He could certainly take other grace into himself. Obviously his body isn’t made to house an archangel, so it’s likely to start deteriorating at some point, but there’s literally no reason why he couldn’t hop on in when given consent. And I mean… it isn’t the first time there have been multiple entities in the one vessel. Remember when Crowley temporarily possessed Gadreel!Sam to try and shake the angel loose? *shrugs* IDK I’m really not seeing the logic problem here that others are seeing there.
- I CAN’T GET OVER MISHA’S ACTING AT THE END LIKE HOLY SHIT
