They changed the music from original airing to Netflix?

I’m watching 1×06 Skin and one of my favorite things about this ep was that they used the song Hey Man Nice Shot by Filter. Now I think it’s Mary by the Death Riders? Why would they do that?

Apparently that’s not the only change in music they’ve made for the Netflix versions. That’s…an interesting change. Skin is not only a very homoerotic episode, it’s not just ripe with subtext, it’s one of the early episodes where they nearly maintexted Dean’s bisexuality (in the scene where the Shifter downloads Dean’s memories, we hear: I’m sorry, I’m sorry (overlaid, in Sam’s voice)
(Dean’s voice) People find you… Don’t be afraid of the dark!… a boy or [marry? on the one hand?] a girl or [later] mix it up?
).

Now, the Filter song is very homoerotic and was an apt choice for the episode, but Mary? That choice for this episode is giving me the chills.

I don’t wanna be a freak show pretty boy anymore
I don’t wanna be a full time slave
I don’t wanna be your midnight cowboy anymore
I just wanna be Mary

That’s it. That’s the episode. That’s the subtext, that’s Dean’s internal process in it.

Good choice, music choosing person.

I’d argue that Hey Man Nice Shot is definitely not homoerotic, considering it’s about the very public suicide of R. Bud Dwyer. Not saying that songs can’t have different meanings from their origins, but… that’s something of a leap for me.
