Think about this. Soulless!Sam didn’t see himself as a lesser or even different form of Sam. He was himself as a separate person. He was an independent consciousness. He’s right. Dean didn’t care about ‘him’ because Dean didn’t see him as a separate consciousness, only as a lesser version of Sam. To get his little brother back, Dean had to destroy Soulless!Sam.
