SHE SAID YOU NEVER GO BACK WHEN YOU SEE THE MAN YOU LOVE DIE

THEN THEY ZOOMED IN ON DEAN WHO HAD TEARS IN HIS EYES

DESTIEL MOTHERFUCKERS.

D E S T I E L

But this was 10000% about Sam?

(I will go down with the S.S. DeanCas to the bottom of Davy Jones’ fucking Locker, but this was definitely not about Cas.)

Why does it have to be about one or the other though¿? Imo in the context of the episode it was very clearly about BOTH Sam and Cas. On one hand speaking of the codependency and highlighting how it needs to go, and on the other hand speaking of Dean’s fears of what he thinks may happen with Cas, as well as remembering other times he’s lost him.

Idk, it being about one thing doesn’t in any way erase the ambiguity and wider meaning of it being about more things at the same time¿?

This whole episode, the entire premise for the hunt, was Sam trying to take Dean’s mind off the despondency at not being able to find anything to help Cas yet. Sam probably figured, “Hey, it worked during that wrestling gig, Dean was able to unwind a bit. We also took care of Bobby’s old Soul Eater hunt… but wow, Dean’s sinking fast. I gotta distract him.”

Sam was unusually chipper about going camping. Trying to get Dean excited about hanging out in the woods to flush out a few rogue werewolves. Why? Dean wanted to hand the case off to another hunter and keep working on the Save Cas front.

The whole reason they were even on this hunt in the first place was because Sam was trying to take Dean’s mind off the Cas problem. If you don’t think at least 50% of that face Dean made at the end was about Cas, when he was informed that Sam was going to be just fine in a few days and was no longer in danger, then you weren’t actually paying attention.

I like the last two comments, I do think it was a mix of both, because in the past he’s seen both of them die, and just recently he had to see Lucifer walking around in the disguise of his friend, and it’s increasingly evident it’s going to be very hard to get him out without some sort of serious maiming if Cas won’t get on board with casting him out… and then you have Sam who had to see “dead”, again.

I think it boils down to seeing people he loves dying over and over again between Cas, Sam, Kevin, Mary, John, Ellen, Jo, Bobby….
