2×12 “Nightshifter”
“Go screw yourself, that’s how I knew. It’s become my job to know about
you, Dean. I’ve been looking for you for weeks now. I know about the
murder in St. Louis, I know about the Houdini act you pulled in
Baltimore. I know about the desecrations and the thefts. I know about
your dad.”

Doesn’t it just kill you how everything – EVERYTHING – in Dean’s demeanor changes the moment Victor Hendriksen brings up John? And God knows I’ve said this more times than I can count, but the way Jensen captures Dean’s vulnerability here is just breathtaking. The way you can see the pain and hurt in his eyes, because he hasn’t really accepted or even close to worked through his father’s death and mourns and defends him when Hendriksen with his description not only brings back the memory and the pain of losing his father, but also the realization that the way him and Sam were raised was messed up in a lot of ways. The tears in Dean’s eyes, the lip quiver, the sarcastic smile – all these things are such great small things about Jensen’s performance. It’s those tiny gestures and expressions that have the most impact often times, not some huge cool actions scenes. It’s the calm, silent ones that kill me most.
