Yes! Exactly why I made this! 

Well…

I actually wanted to gif the FIRST gif as the reason for making this, just because I feel like I don’t see gifs of the whole “Dean reacting in pure alarm to have Cas invading his personal space because he’s so weirded out to have him back like this” moment just because I realised Cas was slotting into his “space” at Dean’s side (so I was feeling really happy about Cas having that little subliminaly possessive moment – this is right before 8×08 where they’re GLUED to each other and it’s both their faults) and Dean – who has only just spent a scene freaking out about Cas being back – reacts like that. 

It’s like the infamous moment just before, where Dean is talking to Sam about how something is “deeply wrong” with the fact Cas has popped back into their lives like “hello, Dean” like nothing ever changed, but then the moment Cas comes out the bathroom, Dean just totally loses his train of thought and however you’re reading it (…) he’s totally overwhelmed at the sight of Cas, all his concern from the conversation with Sam dropped in favour of just reacting to Cas.

And then here, their next “physical” interaction (kinda) after that, Dean recoils from Cas, like he’s still trying to figure everything out and then just… looks at Cas (tbh I think I cut those gifs really sloppily but it wasn’t my focus and probably 90% of all gifs made of this episode are either the boner moment or Dean looking Cas up and down like that…) And Dean just totally loses himself for a moment, even leans back into Cas’s space, and then like you say, chastises himself for looking… 

So as much as the boner moment, it comes across so much as Dean having a series of totally involuntary reactions to Cas’s presence up until the last gif where, because Sam’s phone rings and sort of drags Dean back to the real world, he manages to look away and STOP reacting to Cas’s physical presence…

Anyway I figured because we see this moment most often in general Destiel gifsets just focusing on that little moment where Dean’s eyes go up and down Cas, having the context either side of the look was really interesting so I decided to gif the whole sequence from the moment the camera landed on Dean til the moment it cut away. 😀

(I meant to write a (shorter :P) caption based on the first gif, but I stuck this in my queue to borrow the first gif for my rewatch and then because I’ve had a really patchy last few days and taken 3 days to get 25 minutes into 8×07, this posted before I had a say in it >.>)

yessssssss to all of this

I haven’t even watched 8×07 in forever but I feel like I watched it enough when it first aired that it’s seared into my memory. The whole episode (and even 8×08) has Dean completely thrown by Cas. No matter how you interpret their relationship (though really, if you don’t see it as at least su textually romantic then idk what show you’re watching), it’s clear that Dean just had no idea how to deal with Cas being back. A good part of that is his guilt due to the false memory, which he channels into suspicion and anger because it’s a day ending in y- he drops the suspicion completely after Cas sets him straight (heh) until it’s absolutely clear that something is wrong with Cas in 8×17. But along with the guilt, Dean is obviously fucking thrilled that Cas is around, but doesn’t know how to express it, because again, he’s Dean. And then there’s the fact that any time Cas is around, Dean is half expecting him to fly off at any moment, and so tries to keep himself guarded so as to not be left vulnerable (which he was in 8×17 and now I’m upset about Goodbye Stranger again). Except that keeping himself guarded around Cas is difficult when he wasn’t expecting Cas to show up at all, pretty much thought Cas was a pair of charred wings in Purgatory.

So yeah, I kinda don’t blame him for losing his cool every time Cas pops into his space. and thank god for Jensen’s microexpressions that show us literally every thought that passes through Dean’s mind in half a second.
