aphobes: I don’t want asexuals to be a part of the LGBT community because some of them are cis and heteromantic and I don’t want to take any chances about evil cishets invading our community

aphobes: and that’s why the A should stand for ally

it’s not about whether or not the A should stand for ally because the A has always stood for ally

closeted LGBT people exist and they should have a way to access community resources without outing themselves

ah yes

very always

much historical

THE “A” HAS NEVER STOOD FOR ALLY.

I’ve never understood the push for “A is for Ally” because okay, if the A is for closeted folk who are using allyship to enter the community without being questioned … closeted folk don’t ID as allies.

Even if their families don’t know that they’re not straight or cis, THEY know.

This argument for “ally as a code for closeted folk” works better for the GSA where many of the “straight” people who came to meetings weren’t actually straight but didn’t want their parents or friends to know that.

“A is for Ally (AKA closet folks)” just hinges on erasing asexual and aromantic folk and then framing their desire for inclusion as pushing closeted kids and adults out of the community. When you know… That’s not the case at all.

Uh, yeah, “A” is for “ace/aro,” not ally.
