Some of you have read psychotic-irrational-erratic’s meta on Hook Man (and those that haven’t: do!), where they point out the strange episode in the college party where a guy seems to bump into Sam, Dean notices this and leads Sam away, and Sam’s never the wiser for this little drama taking place around him.
I wanted to expand on this, because there’s more happening at the party.
Dean checks out a few girls as he walks toward Sam.
Dean bumps into a blonde dude.
Dean turns to check the dude out.
Dean winks at the dude.
Dean and Sam talk, after which Dean turns back again, for another time, to check out the dude. Then, the episode from psychotic-irrational-erotic’s meta happens. Another guy comes from the direction of Dean’s eye magic guy and bumps into Sam, looks kind of hostile, so Dean guides Sam away.
But not without checking out blonde guy another time as they leave, smiling at him. Notice the pink arrows.
There’s the dude they’ve just passed, who was the focus of Dean’s attention the whole time. For the wink. And the smile. And checking him out several times. I’ve added a red arrow, which isn’t really necessary since Jerry Wanek provided his own arrows.
Sam and Dean discuss their plans for the rest of the night, and Dean expresses regret that he’s going to spent it at the cemetery instead of hooking up.
They bring up a hot chick playing pool in front of the guys, and the camera focuses on her. Visual main text? Dean might have hooked up with her. Visual subtext? Dean is looking past her back at the direction fucking blonde dude back in the room they came from (Dean lines up his gaze before she walks into it) who he was checking out the whole damn time, because it was the dude he a) winked at, b) smiled at, and c) turned around to check out several times and d) who was the focus on his attention at the party that Dean was expressing regret at not being able to hook up with.
