“Sell your phone if you’re poor” man if you don’t
Naw this real shit. You said you haven’t eaten in 2 days and you’re sleeping in the woods. Why wouldn’t you sell your phone? Priorities smh
That doesn’t automatically mean they’ll be able to eat. Getting a couple hundred bucks is ok but that’s probably going to be swallowed up by debts and whatnot before they can eat. Probably a few meals at best? And having a supportive network like on social media is helpful as fuck.
My mother is a case manager and works with homeless folks seeking health care. The #1 cause of *staying* homeless in her experience has been people not having any support. That means donations. That means social media. That means friends. Maybe if you had YOUR priorities in order you would be actually fucking helpful instead of making rude-ass comments. Donate to them or spread the word. Don’t be an ass.
Say it again for the weenies in the back
Rofl my phone would net me maybe 50 bucks if I was lucky????
50 bucks ain’t gonna save anyone from being homeless!
Let’s not forget that, for the majority of the world, payphones are a thing of legend now. The major carrier networks no longer maintain the infrastructure to little payphones or have removed them outright in a land where cell phones reign supreme. What if the homeless person is injured or stumbles upon someone who is injured and needs to call for emergency services? There ain’t no payphone on every corner and having that cell phone could be the difference between life and death.
Phones are also highly necessary for getting and keeping jobs. “Do you have a phone, what is your number, how do we reach you” is one of the first things prospective employers ask, and they often toss your application out if you don’t have one. Even for shitty min-wage temp or one-time jobs. No phone means no work, which means no pay, which means no money for food or shelter entry fees (some have them) or anything else. No networking for jobs. No calling to arrange transportation to jobs if you live in an area with awful public transport or the employer wants you at a time public transport isn’t running.
It’s really easy for people to talk shit and pontificate about situations they’ve never experienced, or that they experienced in a really unusual way because they had enough social privilege and a supportive network to cash in on that they didn’t stay stuck in the poverty and homelessness trap for long.
the people up there remind me of the Fox report of “92% of “Poor People” own refrigerators” and using that as proof that they’re not poor.
I shouldn’t have to liquidate everything in order to get a job, have a roof over my head, have food in my belly. I should be allowed the bare necessities. And in this world, a phone is a gods damned necessity.
