I’m going to share something personal with you. I hopped on the Dean is bi train during the second season (sure, some episodes of the first season had homoerotic subtext but that’s just a natural result of the dynamics being played out between a mostly male cast), but it was the first episode of the third season what made me go ’…Wait a minute, back up the train. Is this shit intentional?’
Specifically:
Facts we know about this scene:
Dean knows he’s signed his own death warrant. He’s allowing himself to indulge in things he hadn’t felt free to do before, like eating burgers for breakfast. And having a threesome.
We know that one of the people he had sex with was a woman. One of them was, for sure. Pointedly, we’re shown one woman.
We know that Sam walked in on him having sex. Sam knew Dean was having sex with two people when he goddamn walked in on him, he knew this was happening. And he was still shocked by what he witnessed. Like, shocked enough to ask Dean for his knife so he could gouge his eyes out. Let me repeat that Sam knew Dean was having sex when he walked in. And these dudes are used to living in some tight goddamn spaces.
When he walked in, asking whether Dean was conscious, I might add.
Sam calls what Dean was doing “polling the electorate”. What a strange thing to say about a heterosexual encounter with female twins.
Dean has two thumbs up there. Let me repeat, two thumbs are up and ready to go. And he has awfully perky nipples.
The music for the scene is Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”. Which, while being about a ‘devil woman taking a man’s heart’ (hello, crossroads deal), has some pretty suggestive lyrics.
And now I’m feelin’ better ‘Cause I found out for sure She took me to her doctor And he told me of a cure He said that any love is good love So I took what I could get Yes, I took what I could get
Then there’s the dialogue.
Dean: It was a beautiful, natural act, Sam. Sam: It’s a part of you I never wanted to see, Dean. Dean: Hey, I appreciate you giving me a little quality time with the Doublemint Twins. Sam: Yeah, no problem. Dean: Really? Well, I got to say, I was expecting a weary sigh or an eye roll, something. Sam: No, not at all. You deserve to have a little fun.
Um, “a part of you”. Like you’ve never seen his dick before ‘part’ or another kind of part? Because given your way of life, I kind of doubt you’ve never seen his dick before.
“It was a natural act”.
“Really?” Like, is that all you’ve got to say, Sam? Is that all the reaction I’m getting out of you? This was monumental for me, Sam.
These are the facts that we know about this scene.
So, let me pose a question to you. Do you think, knowing what we know of Dean Winchester, that he had never had sex with two women before this moment and that his brother, knowing what he knows of Dean Winchester and what Dean Winchester is emotionally going through at this particular moment, would have reacted in such a way to seeing his brother mid coitus with women?
Or did he just freak out having seen his brother suck a dick?
