ALL YOUR INSTRUMENTS by kalliel (25,700)

A suicide mission against Hell leaves Heaven in shambles and the rest of world in ecological turmoil, as ocean temperatures spike and Heaven’s ashes trigger volcanic activity in Alaska. And all bets are off in Heaven, where memories are malleable, similes are no longer strictly figurative, and Castiel has organized an appallingly novice brass band to play his homeland’s swan song. Castiel and Mary separately investigate the circumstances surrounding Dean’s death, but find that the autopsy of a suicide is no easy task. Meanwhile, Hell’s more artistic titillations have followed Dean upstairs, and he’s disinclined to resist the inevitable. Sometimes things burn.
And the carnival of the grotesque has Alastair’s House of Reds on the grandstand tonight.

ASPHYXIATION by tco (72,000) ♠

There is this human little proverb that says “you are what you eat”. Castiel was too desperate to pay attention to something this unimportant. He was at war. And Dean had to be saved. Castiel swallowed more from Purgatory than he thought he would. And Dean didn’t like being saved, nor did he like his new God. On the other hand, the Leviathans liked their suit very much so they took their time to prepare it for their reigns and the head of their host seemed to be the perfect place to start. They too, did not think about that proverb when they should have. Everything that lays a hand on Dean is lost, in the end.
And Dean? He doesn’t cope with his friend’s death or with the new sea-monster kids in town thing very well. He doesn’t cope at all, though he tries.

Dean is given an out, but reality is a strange, fickle bitch.

EVERY LIVING THING by askance (36,400)

When a pair of hunters on the eastern coast witness the arrival of a very disturbing omen, it isn’t long before the news hurtles across the country, piquing the interest—and fear—of people everywhere. In a matter of days, the new, safe world that Sam, Dean, and Castiel have been inhabiting is flipped upside-down. Something enormous is coming—and this time, it’s something they can’t fight.
Faced with rapidly diminishing prospects, holed up in a tiny, empty Nebraska town, they are forced to confront fears, secrets, and emotions that might have otherwise never seen the light of day. It seems every story must end somehow, and the only thing that remains to be done is to make the most of what little time they have left.

FOR THE BIRDS by mkittyultra (87,600) ♠♠

*Dean/Jimmy Novak, side Dean/Castiel
Fifteen years ago, Cas sacrificed himself to banish the world of supernatural beings, including himself, and he left his vessel, Jimmy Novak, in a coma. When he woke up, he turned his back on the Winchesters, and during the intervening period they’ve all lived their separate lives. Well, I say all – Dean has spent the past 15 years shoe horned into the life Sam has managed to carve out for himself with his partner, Lily, and their three kids. Dean is the odd jobs man around the house and does a lot of the childcare, but he lives, necessarily, on the fringes of the family, not quite able to let go of his life before. One Christmas Eve, Dean gets a call that will drag Jimmy back into his life. Can he let go of past grievances and reconcile his growing feelings for Jimmy with his grief over the loss of Castiel? Meanwhile, something strange is happening to Sam’s youngest son, Cassie.
For the birds (idiom) – worthless; undesirable; eg ‘winter weather is for the birds’.

In post-apocalyptic isolation, Castiel nurses Dean back to something like his former self, but will a time come when Dean’s recovered –and rediscovered– too much?

THE INEXHAUSTIBLE SILENCE OF HOUSES by askance (31,800) ♠♠♠♠

Almost two years after the world doesn’t end, Castiel falls from grace—and loses his voice in the process. It is the impetus for confession and change; before long, he is settling into a loving relationship with Dean, the Winchesters are tired, and hunting for a place to land has taken precedence to hunting anything else. Dean and Castiel fall in love with the strange little house on the end of Swallowtail Drive, and for a little while life is as it should be—sweet, affectionate, and beginning afresh.
But more and more Castiel sees and hears things in the house that beg the question of whether or not a place itself can be alive. The walls and rooms seem to shift and grow and breathe, and one night, Dean comes home from a hunt changed in a way that Castiel cannot explain. In the months that follow, their domestic bliss takes turns for the dark and sour, and the confusion of their circumstances will ultimately test everything Castiel knows about the man he loves, and everything he believes to be true.
