Supernatural Rewatch » The Song Remains The Same
That last part, man. That’s what gets me, and is why Mary in S12 got on my nerves so much.
Mary hates being a hunter and part of a hunter family. She is horrified and devastated by the knowledge her grown children are hunters, grew up hunters. The thing she wanted more than anything was to get away from that life. She was good at it, but still hated it.
But Mary was secretly hunting even while married? Immediately starts hunting again once she comes back? Part as a way to distract herself and cope, yes, but the narrative is that she’s almost addicted to hunting and loves being a hunter when her entire character was designed around the opposite, and this inconsistency drives me up the wall.
What was the alternative? Spending time with her hunter sons in highly awkward silence? Or hunting to avoid things that cause her pain, and ultimately joining in with the attempt to rid the US of monsters entirely?
It doesn’t feel out of character to me, but YMMV.
