#these movies get the spirit of what makes cap interesting#and ultimately really damn depressing#because steve’s better than the world around him#and while that’s inspiring and empowering for the people who work with him#and important to the people who look up to him as an icon#and who look to captain america when things are most hopeless#it’s taking pieces out of steve#he signed up to just be one soldier#not a savior#and he keeps dying for his country#and they keep bringing him back to do it again tags via (linzeestyle)
Reblogging this for the excellent comment. Steve Rogers signed up to be one soldier, not a savior. He shoulders the burden, dies and dies again for his country and for the world. And no one sees Steve Rogers. They only see the myth and legend.

I tell people, if you want to see who Cap is, skip “The Avengers” (good film, not so great for Cap, but then, Joss Whedon never seemed to have a handle on his character) and go right to “The Winter Soldier.” It shows you everything you need to know: his anger, his sarcastic sense of humor, his determination to do the right thing no matter what it costs him, his sense of loss and disconnection…and his heartbreak, when he realizes who the Winter Soldier actually is.
