By now you have probably heard, and if you haven’t I am sorry to be the one to tell you, that Wayward Sisters has not been picked up by The CW. The network has decided to move past it and instead select other shows, which are downright questionable in comparison.
Instead, shows such as Charmed, Roswell, In The Dark, Legacy and In Americahave been chosen. And while they are probably all good shows in their own way, they are nothing in comparison to Wayward Sisters. It prompts the question does The CW fear solely female-led shows?
Out of all the shows picked up by The CW, Wayward Sisters is the only one that is a solely female-led show. All of the others have one male lead at least. Both Charmed and Roswell have female leads but there is are male leads as well.
So does The CW fear something? Are they worried it might not work? Well, that’s just ridiculous.
When the backdoor pilot aired as part of Supernatural season 13 it didn’t underperform. In fact, it smashed all expectations.
Ratings were up in the key demo range by 8.11% based on the previous episode of Supernatural and total audience scores were up by 7.78%. It was the fourth highest episode overall at the time of season 13.
Nielson also reported that #Supernatural came second in the social rankings on the night and sixth overall for the week. #WaywardSisters wasn’t being tracked at the time so we have no idea how it did via Nielson but it was trending several times during the night.
The fanbase and support are there and they have been there for a long time. This was not a show that was thought of and planned out overnight. It was a result of years of campaigning and fighting for it to happen.
So why? What is it about Wayward Sisters that put The CW off?
It did everything right; it ticked all of the boxes and it even proved itself during its pilot episode. And no offense to the other shows that were picked up by The CW but you have nothing to bring to the table in comparison.
No one was screaming and shouting for a The Originals spin-off. Well, if you were, it certainly wasn’t loud enough.
So come on then CW. What is it? What is it you fear about an all female-led show? Tell us what it is because right now people are starting to ask some very serious questions about where you stand.
It’s sad and infuriating because the pilot was so promising. It gave us family, unity, COMMUNICATION, no ‘bitch’ calling, zero misogyny, healthy relationships between all the characters, no weird codependency, and all the ladies who were amazing. The CW doesn’t know a good thing even if it was in front of their faces.
Like, The CW ASKED for a spinoff. And the Chicago thing was a trainwreck, we never speak of that, but this was a hgh-quality, well-developed spinoff with fan support. And the CW said “nah”. So did they ever really want a spinoff? And if so, exactly what kind of spinoff would be acceptable? One with less estrogen, I assume.
Wayward Sisters has a passionate fandom and a dedicated creative team ready. It’s time.
Okay, I did not do literal witchcraft in a goddamn Starbucks to be rewarded with the news that the CW passed on Wayward. Oh no, I did not. Plus, the Winchesters never met an impossible fight they couldn’t handle.
Screw the stakes, let’s show Team Wayward some support.
Here is a number you can call to let the CW know you want them to reconsider: (818) 977-2500
And here is a nice feedback form you can use to give them feedback on their choices: [click here]
Mark Pedowitz has an e-mail address, and it’s mark.pedowitz@cwtv.com.
And hey, here’s a change.org petition: [click here]
IMPORTANT ADVICE:
Be clear, concise, and kind
Tell them who you are, what Wayward means to you, what you love about it, etc., and encourage them to change their minds
Encourage others to support the effort if they’re sad about The CW passing on the show; noise matters
Support each other, because a lot of us had a big emotional investment in this story, cast, and creative team
Seriously, be kind
Look at that auto reply form letter, don’t you want one of your very own?
Fullmetal Alchemist AU where everything’s the same except Ed makes up stupid stories as to why he lost his arm and leg and they’re different every time someone asks.
ex: “I got attacked by a shark” “I stubbed my toe and decided I didn’t want it anymore” “I went through a steampunk phase” “Sheep are vicious when they’re hungry” “Squirrels”
“y-you have an automail arm and leg… you–you must have committed the ult-”
“did you know horses are omnivorous? you’d think they just eat grass and weeds but that’s what they want you to think”
