At least 17 people were killed Wednesday in a high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said.
The suspect, 19-year-old former student Nikolaus Cruz, is in custody, the sheriff said. The sheriff said he was expelled for unspecified disciplinary reasons. Police are investigating his digital profile, he said. So far, what they’ve found is “very, very disturbing,” Israel said.
Law enforcement transport the suspect in Wednesday’s school shooting. Law enforcement responded to reports of a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shortly before 3 p.m. Seventeen people, including the suspect, were sent to area hospitals, said Dr. Evan Boyar of Broward Health. The suspect was treated and released to police.
The victims included students and adults, the sheriff said. Twelve were killed inside the building and two died outside, he said. One died in the street and two died at the hospital, Israel said.
Another tragic school shooting. Another day in America. Until the NRA gets out of the pockets of politicians nothing will be done about gun control and these senseless shootings will continue. The NRA and the GOP have the blood of innocent people on their hands. I wonder how they sleep at night.
I like all the coverage about SCOTUS refusing to override the PA Supreme Court in the gerrymandering case but no one is talking enough about how rather than listen to them and redrawing the congressional lines, PA Republicans are instead TRYING TO IMPEACH THE JUSTICES
I’m so sorry, this was uninformed and needs to be corrected. They aren’t trying to impeach thhr justices, they are only trying to impeach the five democrats and also make it illegal for them to ever hold public office ever again.

the fear men instill in women by virtue of existing in their vicinity is something men, especially white men, need to be aware of.
You could think you’re the nicest guy in the world but a woman sees you as a threat. Because you are! You are one. You starting a conversation on the train with a woman isn’t “being friendly”. It is trapping her in an interaction she cannot leave of her own consent out of fear of retaliation. You asking where she’s headed isn’t “small talk”. It is invasive and makes her fear for her safety by being followed. Your presence forces women to consider safety before comfort or agency. Be conscious of that when you interact with women in public space.
i love that one old timey 1910s trans dude who has a tiny wikipedia page for himself that he earned entirely due to him starting fights in bars and being the city’s hottest casanova
Like this glorious jerk got arrested so many times that was literally ALL THEY HAD TO WRITE IN THE PAPER
He was a vagrant street kid and Seattle girls were all over this guy, to the point where it caused a moral panic. There’s a famous anecdote about a women proclaiming her love in Denny Park and then trying to shoot herself, but most of these reports were falsely worded in a way that suggest his female admirers were “upset about being deceived” when really they were upset that he was wooing other women, or trying to get his attention by being as extra as possible.
What you also should know is that back in the day “seduction” was a literal crime that could put you in prison (unless you married the woman you seduced) but since he wasn’t cis they couldn’t really CHARGE HIM with anything. Legend.
I especially like “Seattle Woman Appears in Men’s Clothes Because She Says Her Features Make it Possible.” I can’t imagine anything but someone going “Hey! You can’t dress like that!” and him responding “Oh yes I can. You see, I look very good.”
@dduane is a delightful human and a wonderful author. Her books are full of life, and good people making the best choices they can. They make me laugh and cry still on the 10000000th read.
Pls consider being kind to both a lovely author and to yourself, and pick up some quality reading.
(And once you’re in love with her books, come talk to me about’em. And maybe consider joining the YW slack, which is also full of lovely people saying nice things. And puns.)
Oof. I took this as a timely reminder to finally go buy the Young Wizards series – one of those ‘meant to, never got there’ things – and it looks like this is the right time to pull the trigger for anyone in the same boat.
