Reblogging again because you can never have enough Nazi flag ripping on your blog.
Reblogging because we stand against hate.
Reblogging because fuck yes
Mainstream media is really important in shaping a popular opinion – this movie (the Sound of Music, for people who don’t recognise it) was the first thing I knew about Nazis and the beginning of the war. I’d never heard about them before, and I remember mum having to explain to me what the symbol meant. This movie showed likable, strong and sympathetic characters tearing up Nazi flags and resisting the Nazis. It showed Nazi-sympathizers as intimidating and unfair. It showed us that normal people (Rolfe) could fall for their propaganda and we could lose them.
I was seven years old when I first watched this and immediately I knew Nazis were terrible, and because of the power of the story and the warmth of the characters this feeling sunk to my core.
I worry a lot about kids whose first introduction to world events is a movie like ‘American Sniper’.
ADHD is related to several sleep problems, but the most frequent seems the delayed sleep phase syndrome, a disturbance of the circadian rhythm. Research of children and adults with ADHD (when compared to controls) shows that the majority of these individuals has a late sleep onset that is associated with a late onset of the sleep hormone melatonin (van der Heijden et al, 2005; van Veen et al, 2010). Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland in the brain when it is getting dark in the evening, and we wake up by light in the morning. The onset of the melatonin production helps to fall asleep. For most adults the onset of melatonin is around 9.30 pm; in ADHD children compared to controls this occurs at least 45 minutes later, and in adults with ADHD even 90 minutes (van der Heijden ea, 2005; van Veen ea 2010). After melatonin onset, it normally takes 2 hours to fall asleep, but in adults with ADHD it takes at least 3 hours (Bijlenga et al, 2013). So it does make sense that so many people with ADHD have difficulty falling asleep on time. This late onset of melatonin is driven by genes that regulate the biological clock, and those genes have been linked psychiatric disorders like ADHD and bipolar disorder (Landgraf et al, 2014). What the exact relationship is between this late sleep pattern and ADHD is still unknown.
“The shock win of 28 year old socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should be a wake-up call. Because, whilst the Right was feeling smart watching the Ben Shapiro Show, the Left—the real Left that is, not the confused Democratic establishment—has been living through the most dramatic policy renaissance in decades. (Hint: it has nothing to do with bathrooms.) Not only is a populist policy platform coming together, but the Left has increasingly found the persuasive policy wonks—and the campaigners like the Democratic Socialists of America—to exert real influence among the ranks of the Democrats. Whoever ends up running, a “Federal Jobs Guarantee” is the big idea already set to dominate the Democratic primaries in 2020. This simple idea would see the government guarantee a job to the 13.1 million Americans who are currently unemployed or underemployed. The go-to report on the topic, from the Center on Budget Policy Priorities, suggests a “guaranteed wage” would go with each one of these jobs, to the tune of $32,500. The program would cost $543 billion a year, but the authors suggest a significant chunk of the cost—over $220 billion—is in fact already being spent on public assistance programs that could be nearly eliminated. For the Democrats, the like of which Ocasio-Cortez beat in the biggest primary upset of the year, a “Jobs Guarantee” would be new ideas enough. How are you going to pay for that? The emerging Left has an answer: by revolutionizing how we think about government spending.”
There is a movie that recently came out called “Woman Walks Ahead” starring Jessica Chastain and Micheal Greyeyes that tells the story of Catherine Weldon, an artist, and activist who painted Sitting Bull in 1890.
The movie has a female director and the cast and production team was very conscientious of how they portrayed the Lakota people and their culture.
An exciting step in the right depiction, right?
Unfortunately, the decision has been made to give the movie a VERY limited (and seemingly random) release with only a handful of theaters showing it across the United States for the next couple of days (July 3 – July 5). On top of that, they released the movie on i-tunes and Direct TV with very little promotion beyond the interviews the actors have done, hurting what little theatrical release they might have had. Which is Tragic, this movie was made to be seen in a theater!
When you have a minority led project that portrays its Native characters as real relatable people and the distributors just happen to decide to shoot it in the foot by not giving it a wide release I can’t help but think… What’s really going on here?
So this is my plea out to all of you; if you live in any following areas and a considering your movie option for the next few days, please go support Woman Walks Ahead! If you don’t but still want to support the film, consider buying it on i-tunes or talk about it on social media! Reblog this post so people who do live near the right towns might be able to support the movie!

The only way Hollywood is going to know that we want more movies with positive representation, female directors, female leads, etc is if we support the movies that aim to show it. I really don’t want studio and distribution executives to use this beautiful movie they set-up to fail as an excuse for why they don’t support minority lead projects in the future.
Thank you for your time and please pass on this post!
