I can never get enough Winchester code words. Also, being from the pacific northwest, my first reaction was “what the hell is a Poughkeepsie?”
I had to google it. Apparently it’s a city in New York.
What the hell happened in Poughkeepsie?
I love when we heard their code words. Like funky town. Or how if they get separated, to go to the first motel in the phone book. Can we have more Winchester secrets, please?
Winchester Secrets We Currently Know:
Poughkeepsie: Drop everythign and run
Funky Town: There is a gun at my head.
If they get separated, go to the first motel in the phonebook
Five-O: I’ve been caught, get the Hell out of here
11-2-83: The combination to the compartment in Baby.
“Somethings stuck to my shoe” mean you’re being followed
Not to mention all of their silent hand signals, this being one of my favorites – the silent signal for vampires:
Transcription, in case you’re at work or sans headphones in public or something:
Charlottesville, Virginia. Ugly business, man. And all over some participation trophies for our crimes against humanity. I tell you what, I’m glad Dale Earnheart ain’t here to see this shit.
Look with my background I’m not surprised by all this but it makes me sad. One of the saddest parts to me is I know these guys, they think they’re patriots. You know, fighting for the real America with their swastikas and their confederate flags. Man, I don’t know that there’s any symbol that’s more inherently un-American than the confederate flag. It’s sort of the point of the fuckin’ thing. But there they are in full regalia, exercising their rights as Americans. “We got a right to assemble here! We got a right to protest that statue, fly that flag!” Buddy… [sighs] Yes, you do. BUT screamin’ about your rights as an American while rockin’ the confederate flag is like arguin’ against gay marriage with a dick in your mouth, you dumb fuck! It makes no sense!
But that’s the thing with these assholes, they’re immune to irony! 100% natural immunity to it, don’t affect them at all. Stand there and holler about supremacy while cosplaying as two separate regimes famous for getting the shit beat out of them, supremacy my ass!
Ultimately, at their core, these people are losers. Losers who fetishize other losers. I know you can look at the coverage and the pictures and the fucking White House and feel like they’re not losing right now, but in the grand scheme they absolutely are. A few decades ago they had Jim Crow and George Wallace. This weekend they could barely find 500 dipshits who could afford a fucking bus ticket. They’ve been losing battle after battle, fight after fight for over 200 years in this country and these are their death throes. We just have to stay the course.
And to my fellow rural Americans out there, I’ve known too many of you over the years, good people, who see some shit like this and turn a blind eye, bite your tongue, because you don’t want to fuck up the potluck, and I get that. But them days are over, y’all. Your silence is your complicity. So whether it’s on Facebook, or face-to-face at the PTA meeting, you’ve gotta letting these assholes know they do not speak for all of us. Cause Trump proved on Saturday, in this, refusing to pick a side is the same thing as picking their side. And trust me, historically, that ain’t a side you wanna be on. Unless you like losing.
The following is a rough transcript of my own recorded video footage (which I’m still trying to convert since I lost the USB cord and am currently looking for it lol).
Q&A: If you guys could do, like, any kind of movie genre, what would you do? Since I personally think Jared – er(?), Jensen and Misha should be in a romcom together.
Jared: [pause] [close-lipped smirk on face] …I’d direct that.
Jensen: [holds back a laugh-snort, schools expression] You’ve never directed anything.
Jared: That’s my point. I’d direct that.
Jensen: That’s what it would take? The scenario? You’re like – “No, okay, I can’t pass up this opportunity”
Jared: [folds hands, begs] Please please please.
[Jared provides a serious answer]
Jared: Meanwhile it [inaudible] – I’d direct a romcom with this guy. And Misha — [inaudible]
Jensen: I’ve said it before. I’d love to do a Western…slash romcom with Misha.
As with TERFs echoing right-wing pundits when it comes to trans panic, it’s so interesting to me how many aphobes and antis echo right-wing voices when it comes to moral panic over consent education and (later) age-appropriate sex education for minors. What these alt-right people are saying is so similar to shit I’ve seen aphobes say about children and sexuality, from believing that children should be kept in the dark completely about consent and anything age appropriate that might pertain to sex even a little bit, to making up strawman “translations” that misstate what sex ed advocates and consent advocates are actually saying.
None of this is surprising.
When you set up a baseline of ‘if someone claims someone is this, critical thought stops, nuance stops, human considerations stop’ the only thing you can be sure of is it will appeal to the kinds of people who don’t like nuance or humanity in the first place and they will abuse it.
Society has build a powerful direct response of grabbing pitchforks and no longer thinking for yourself at the word ‘pedophile’. Of course harmful people are abusing it.
Or should I say ‘using it’, because I have a strong suspicion that
the panicky witch-hunt sentiments behind how society deals with pedophilia were never about protecting children, and always about ‘building a tool to villify something sexual without anyone daring to criticize us because we used the p-word and no one wants to be seen defending that’.
Thank you for articulating something that’s incredibly important.
I still remember when society considered “homo” to be synonymous with “pedo” to be synonymous with “predator”, and I’m not that old. It’s not that hard to slide back. Hell, schoolteachers still get fired for being gay. It feels more and more like the endgame of all of this is a return to the level of homophobia and transphobia we’ve seen in past decades, (maybe with an in-built exception for monogamously married vanilla gays), and it’s incredibly disturbing to watch young LGBTQ* people buying into it – like watching them dig their own graves.

bolding this from @queeranarchism’s reblog above, because that’s the part that made me hit the reblog button
Why did this have to include the dig at “monogamously married vanilla gays” though as though all gay people no matter how vanilla aren’t still at high risk of being fired and seen as predators
Because respectability politics, that’s why. It’s why “We’re just like you!” doesn’t work for very long as a way to be accepted by the mainstream. Because then they find out that some of general-you aren’t exactly like them. Then, they create acceptable levels of gayness, and anyone who differs from that is still ostracized. It’s just shifting the goalposts continuously.
