This April, don’t support an organization that harms autistic people.
[crossed out logo for Autism Speaks]
Support one built by autistic people, for autistic people.
[logos for the Autistic Self Advocacy Network and the Autism Women’s Network]Reblogging to spread the word, cause evidence shows that Autism $peaks are classic horror movie villains.
Reblogging because I’ve always wondered who to support instead of AS.
To every friend of mine who reblogs this, thank you. It means I can trust you. ❤

just a reminder that a lot of people supporting “light it up blue” aren’t aware of its negative connotations.
a lot of people dont know why autism speaks is bad, and it never occurs to them to look up if it has issues.
it is none of our duties to educate these people during april, but keep in mind that people may not be malicious, just ignorant.
If you DO want to educate them, here is a 40 page essay about why autism speaks is bad, with works cited.
use this as you will
It’s that time of the year again. A LOT of money is donated at Christmas time so here’s your yearly reminder of popular charities you should NOT donate to:
–The Salvation Army [x]
-PETA [x]
-Susan G. Kormen for the Cure [x]
-Autism Speaks [x]
There’s lots more horrible and corrupt charities out there so please do your research and please feel free to add to this list
In my eleven years as a professional stagehand and twenty years as a participant in fandom, I have never been treated with this much respect and dignity by a performing member of the entertainment industry. Kim Rhodes (Jody Mills on Supernatural) made me cry today, in the best of ways.
This is how you ally. Thank you, Kim, you made me feel like a human being. I can’t imagine a better mother for your daughter; she’s in great hands.

And my esteem of Kim Rhodes has gone up by a million. I thought she was pretty cool before, but this makes her amazing. I have immense respect for someone who is willing to listen to someone’s opinion and actually let it change their own.
This is fantastic and might have made my whole day.
So, what’s the problem with Autism Speaks?
(TW: Ableism) Autism Speaks is the most well-known autism charity. They have the most media coverage and are endorsed by many celebrities, but this certainly does not make them a good organization.
- Autism Speaks does not have a single autistic member on their board.
Autism Speaks only…
It’s April!
Whilst I’m sure you all mean well, please remember not to support or donate to Autism Speaks this month (or any month for that matter) as they are a terrible organisation who hurt the autistic community
Instead I recommend actually taking time to look at writing from autistic people and learn from them and, if you really want to help and donate, consider ASAN instead
Thank you xx
