There are people in this fandom that keep and keep spreading misinformation that has no basis in reality which a lot of people seem to take for the truth just because it has been repeated often enough.
The series creator Eric Kripke has never called Dean Winchester straight. In a round table interview in Comic Con in 2013, in just one of many, he spoke of his thematic of unstated homoerotic subtext in his work, paralleling the brothers Sam and Dean to the characters Sebastian and Miles from his new show Revolution, which was the topic of the interview, and he called Sebastian and Miles straight guys. He did not call Dean Winchester a straight guy. At no point did he call Dean Winchester a straight guy. He has never called Dean Winchester a straight guy in any recorded interview in the last eleven years. Eric Kripke has, however, confessed on his own twitter account that he used Hellblazer, Good Omens, American Gods, and Sandman as his inspiration for The Pilot episode. These influences have something in common.
It also falsely claimed that all the writers either think Dean Winchester is straight (which is naturally unverifiable but extremely unlikely), or that all the writers have in fact said that Dean Winchester is straight.
That is all we know about the opinions of the writers even tangentially related to Dean Winchester’s sexuality. And this is only a small handful of writers. Not one of the writers currently writing for the show has ever called Dean Winchester straight, not once, not anywhere that can be verified.
In the interest of not falsely presenting the evidence, I will also add that the director Guy Norman Bee has stated on twitter that Destiel is not the story. He was, however, not commenting on Dean Winchester’s sexuality.
The only person that has claimed that Dean Winchester is not bisexual is Chad Kennedy, the director of current programming at Warner Brothers. His opinions, however, do not reflect those of the CW or the creators of Supernatural, as his twitter disclaimer was subsequently changed to state.
“I’m a bisexual and I don’t think dean winchester is bisexual, that’s really offensive and ignores canonical fact”
sorry i can’t really hear u over how bi dean is
except he’s not at all please fuck off
sorry I can’t really hear u over how bi dean is
sorry I can’t hear you over how canon-ly straight Dean is
if dean is straight how do you explain his blatant bisexuality???
Oh you know, with actual canon scenes where he explicitly has sex with females and the complete lack of any scenes where Dean interacts with a man in a romantic way idk just facts or something
Dude, Dean has flirted with more guys than I have flirted with girls and yet I am bi.
Somehow, having sex with guys didn’t change that fact for me? IDK, it’s almost like being bisexual means you’re attracted to the opposite sex as well as the same sex or something.
And much like Dean, I didn’t really figure it out/deal with it until I was in my 30s. And I didn’t even have John Winchester for a father.
And I flirt with my friends. Doesn’t mean I wanna fuck them. It’s almost like you idiots have no concept of how males interact with each other or something.
You clearly missed the point of my post, which was that an outside observer looking at my life would totally think I was straight. In fact, I thought I was straight for over 30 years.
it’s canon that dean eats at least one cheeseburger per day.
it’s canon that dean believes a good cheeseburger is as good as sex.
it’s canon that dean likes to cook….greasy food.
it’s canon that dean will eagerly accept pretty much any junk food when it’s offered to him.
it’s canon that dean gets excited when he gets to finish whatever sam didn’t eat.
it’s canon that dean is an enthusiastic, messy eater.
it’s canon that someone has told dean that he has a “dad bod.”
all of the evidence is there….except for the fact that the actor who plays dean is not chubby.
so, like, dean SHOULD be chubby. everything points to dean being chubby. but you can deny it and very easily point to jensen ackles and say, “dean is not chubby because jensen is not chubby,” and i will have to relent and say, “yeah, wow, you’ve got a point,” but that doesn’t change the fact that chubby!dean is as close to canon as it’s ever going to get.
what i’m trying to say is that dean is bisexual.
He doesn’t work out. At all. Ever. He’s stated plainly the only exercise he gets is chasing monsters. Unlike Sam who we’ve seen doing push ups and going to the gym and making an effort to work on his bod.
You don’t get Jensen’s nice bod by eating cheeseburgers and never going to the gym, so he’s bi is all I’m saying.
Some people don’t believe that Dean Winchester is bi because he has never explicitly said so in the show. That’s fine. I mean, Chuck never said he’s God (throwaway lines about “my novels are real I am a god” with no claim to Christian godhood in 4.18 don’t really count, in context; rather, they support the idea that Chuck is just a prophet) either. It’s possible that Chuck is just a novelist and prophet, and his appearance in 10.05 was the product of a fanatical shapeshifter who took the form of their favorite author. It’s possible. Heck, it’s not unsupported by canon!
You know, like Dean being straight despite being heavily coded as bi. Ya know. Dean’s bisexuality is as not-canon as Chuck’s status as God. Just food for thought.
