I keep seeing people saying that Dean is using the blunt side of the blade to decapitate this guy, but if you look at the top gif, you can plainly see the sharp edge is at the top of the knife—the bevel is really obvious. The serrated edge is used for sawing, and it’s pointing downward.

In the second and third gifs, you can see Dean using his strength to turn the blade, bending the vampire’s wrists backward (!!!!!) until the sharp edge is against the vamp’s throat, and in the last gif you can see, by the width of the bloodstain on the blade, that the sharp edge has the widest part of the stain, indicating that that was the leading edge of the strike.

I’m just boggled at Dean turning that blade, man. I can see how he might have a leverage advantage on the vamp for that turnabout because of his height, but the fact that he can push that blade over from a starting position where his wrists are bent back against a vampire’s strength, wow.

That’s really kinda scary, and I’m certain that one of the things that the mark of Cain is doing is making Dean physically stronger. Maybe strong enough to overpower an angel whose stolen grace is weakening him…

All I keep wondering is how his left hand wasn’t bleeding profusely after that

I just like any analysis of a show that talks about leverage due to height. But also, why isn’t his hand all cut to hell? Magic! Physics! Whatever!

Well, I was chalking it up to a continuity error, because when the hell did the vamp let go of the blade?

But basically, YES, HOW DOES HE STILL HAVE ALL HIS FINGERS???

I wonder if either brother have ever considered that perhaps Dean is misreading his own perceptions…that he is looking what he did and seeing pleasure in the act of killing as proof he is corrupt, when in fact the pleasure is not in the death itself, but in the claiming of power he so rarely had both on earth and in hell, and in the chance to release his internalized grief and rage.
