okay so sam and dean were based on sal paradise and dean moriarty from the book on the road by jack kerouac! they’re two best friends who basically travel around the entire country aimlessly and it was the most popular book of the beatnik generation in the 1950’s, which inspired kripke to create sam and dean (fun fact: sam was originally named sal and sam and dean were originally two journalist best friends, not brothers.)
dean moriarty (based on the flagrantly bisexual neal cassady, named after james dean) was bi in on the road and had sex with men as much as he had sex with women. a lot of the “racy” gay sex scenes were cut between dean and carlo and dean and sal from the original copy of OTR.
(also this is a weird fun fact so william burroughs—one of jack kerouac’s beatnik writer friends and who the character “Old Bull” is based on in OTR—lived on my aunt and uncle’s street in Lawrence KS. weeeeird huh?)

#maybe the most important gifset ever#because this is what sam meant#THIS was the circumstances#he would never violate dean’s agency and choice to his own body#would he die for dean?#of course#but he would never ever let anyone possess dean because this is sam winchester we’re talking about and sam winchester KNOWS how heinous it is to not have control over your own body and will#sam had every right to say this and every right to express this and this is NOT the end of the brothers love for one another#thank (via dimpleforyourthoughts)

Okay, one? Props to makeup. That is fucking incredible.
Two? …where is this even from? Hell? Nightmares? I think I would’ve remembered the meathooks okay
The very last shot of “No Rest for the Wicked.” Dean in Hell, remember?
I remember.
Okay, so I ran out of patience with those snake scales, but otherwise liking how this turned out.
“Guess you should have paid more attention in Latin class.”
This is where we parked the car, right?
Dean Winchester
Went to Hell and back
Gets sliced and diced on a daily basis
Hates getting his face splashed …
It’s a little difficult to see, but look closely, right when Cas says I’m okay, he’s shaking his head, nullifying the very words that leave his mouth. Cas isn’t okay, because he wants to be with Dean, but Dean had made it very clear that he didn’t want Cas around. And Cas will always put what Dean wants in front of his own needs. So sure, he’ll go on pretending, but no⎯he’s not okay. Still, the worst part is that Dean doesn’t see that. He’s not looking for the wounded expression on Cas’s face. As Dean is turned away from Cas he gives an almost imperceptible nod, and we what he’s thinking: that Cas is okay without him. The first “good“ he utters is to himself, it’s the broken mantra of Dean Winchester. Well, good, Cas is okay without him, and how could he ever be stupid enough to believe that Cas could need him as much as he needs Cas? Good, he says again, stronger now as he lets the walls build up around him. He’ll strap on his boots, slap a strong look on his face, and drown his emotions. He’s never needed anyone before, it’s always been Dean Winchester against the world. How could he let himself believe that one angel would make that any different?
I'm tired Sam
so it just hit me that when dean runs into emmanuel!cas for the first time
considering all that cas had done, dean has every right to be pissed (and we do see a little bit of that come up later)
hell, especially if he had even the briefest thought that cas had ditched him all that time, why wouldn’t he be pissed
but instead
once the initial shock wears off he just looks
sad
and full of yearning
