shipping-isnt-morality:

Ok, I don’t RP and never have, so:

What are all your thoughts on teens RPing genuinely problematic ships with adults, or even other teens? Assuming there’s no NSFW scenes, I’m still not sure how I feel about, say, an adult and teen roleplaying homecoming-era Starker.

to an outsider, that looks pretty bad. but I don’t know what the roleplay culture is like or even if that kind of thing is already frowned upon.

Ah, that ship is a hard no from me anyway, but were I to explore it or something similar, it sure as hell wouldn’t be with a teen. I spent a lot of my formative RP time limiting myself to PG-13, and playing against 13 year-olds in the forums I was a member of at the time.

Now, I’m 32 instead of 18, and I feel much more comfortable sharing RP-space with adults instead of minors. There’s a reason my latest forum joining was to an 18+ forum, and it wasn’t for smut purposes; there’s been no smut so far.

The culture is changing to protect the adults using online spaces from crusading parents. Lying about your age online to get into adults-only spaces used to be an unspoken, really common thing, though it’d get you banned if you were found.

Now, you’re vetted hardcore by the mods, and there’s a very good chance they’d find the one social media post where the charade is not kept up, because of the very real legal problems that could crop up.

Also, my fandom of choice is “problematic” all on its own, and the older fans view it differently from the younger fans.

I also don’t do DW or tumblr RP, and forum RP is a little more insular, so other people may have different opinions.

Thoughts, @gyhldeptis @makethwoman?
